Excellent inputs Fran !

One question was on how do you deal with management with a known history of passing the buck & playing the blame game for decisions management forces the tech team to implement ?

Do you stand firm and not signoff on things if the direction is incorrect ? Any other tips & strategies on dealing with it ?

My best take on this situation is to learn to pick your fights.

Side topic, I have recently been reflecting on what's a non-negotiable in a romantic partner and what's just something we don't share in common. The same way this applies to me and my relationship with my girlfriend, it applies to me and my relationship with anyone at work.

There are situations in which the decision management pushes to the tech team is not making much harm. You can try to educate a bit but still implement the changes. However, when the decision is going to impact negatively the tech team, it's time to stand a bit firmer.

To push back, I'd still recommend not picking a fight, but letting the other people see this decision is going to make more harm than good. Framing things around what they care about works better than farming it about what you care about.

E.g. "Implementing this change requires 16 weeks and will delay project B" is better than "you didn't tell us this earlier! We couldn't plan for it!"

One step at a time. Focus on the progress. The most important thing is to move in the right direction.

I could have used this article a few months ago, I had a task I knew I didn't know how to progress on, so I kept putting it off and not making progress until the pressure built too much
