> The brag doc is this document where you write entries like “I did <> and created <> impact”.
I remember creating this a couple of years ago for my friend. She did a lot at work, but because the environment was so intense and work seemed never to end, she quickly forgot how impactful and vital her work for the company was.
Of course, it was hard to fill out a blank page when it came to promotion and listing all her achievements. So we started a brag doc, and suddenly, moving up on the career ladder became much more manageable and straightforward.
Yeah, these were promotions every year so far that it was sufficient. If I had to summarize what I've been doing all these years, I'd probably turn to my blog 😃
I started doing that in my current job where I summarize my contribution to the team and organization, and its impact. I'm curious to see what this will look like after a few months.
That is definitely something to consider when you are starting out. You should also document for yourself all your learning experiences to use whenever you are hit by a downturn.
I started a work log a couple of months ago, along with a weekly review of what im proud of and what I learned! But I have not yet gotten around to creating the 'brag doc' so this is helpful!
Ok I’m finally convinced, I’ll start one this week :)
It will bring great results over time! :)

Excellent advice, as always, Fran! 👏
Thanks Akos!
Yeah, I kept somewhat of a document at the beginning but when I prepared for my promotion I had to do too much work to find the data and evidence.
At that moment I realized it didn't scale for future promotions, which usually take more time. Better to be intentional!

Thanks, Petar!
That's the beauty of it. A single contribution doesn't do much. But this system over time will show in a page all your accomplishments!
Besides preparing for future promotions / performance reviews, it's a great source of motivation for myself
I like that, I'll definitely try it. Some out of the box ideas here!
Let me know how they go!
I have seen the benefit for myself and for others that I know started using some of these mechanisms

I agree, Bogdan.
It's not only a document for others, but a document for ourselves
